*Topic:  Wikis

Description: Wikipedia defines a wiki as, “a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. The collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia is one of the best-known wikis. Wikis are used in business to provide intranets and Knowledge Management systems.” In this session we will learn to create wikis in the classroom and discover how this collaborative, student-teacher-parent created tool can provide a basis for collaborative learning activities and/or an environment of educational community that reaches both in and outside of the classroom.

Length of Session:  Two hours

*Topic:  Digital Citizenship and Responsibility

DescriptionDo your students spend hours on the computer at home networking with their friends, accessing information, gaming, and/or listening to music?  Worried about the dangers that lurk in cyberspace?  Lasso the same power that engages your students at home while at school by modeling safe, ethical use, diversity, digital etiquette, cultural understanding and social interactions. Technopersonal skills such as email, texting, blogs and message boards all make the world connect instantly. With this new technology, however, come new challenges and a new set of social rules… netiquette. How we shape our words becomes more critical in this faceless world of conversation.  What should you post via electronic communication? What are the do’s and don’ts of netiquette, of e-information and where does the responsibility for monitoring this lie? How does it affect what goes on in the classroom? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should!

Length of Session:  Two hours

*Topic:  Achievement through Standards and Technology Resources that are Priceless! Literally Priceless…they are FREE!

DescriptionLearn about NETS/TN Curriculum Standards and free technology resources plus examples for each standard.  Don’t miss this session, as it is not a “Standard” standard’s based session.  Perfect for 6-8 general education, ESL, and SPED teachers.
